New Menu At Marker 10, The Hyatt Regency’s Lakeside Restaurant

Marker 10 is the newly renovated restaurant at the Hyatt Regency that features cocktails, sushi, and bar bites. The outdoor deck overlooks Ladybird Lake with a view of the Austin skyline, and the interior of the restaurant is flooded with light from the floor-to-cieling windows.

The menu was recently updated, so I headed in to try it out and see the new space. A few things:

  1. Their new space is really pretty! The Hyatt Regency has been in Austin for a long time, which means they’ve secured some of the best real estate on the south side of the river. If you sit outside on the deck, you’ll get views of the lake, the South Congress bat bridge,  and downtown Austin.
  2. The table tops outside are AMAZING! They’re these amazing glossy tie-dye, watercolor tabletops that glisten in the sun and make the bar experience even more fun.
  3. Marker 10 is right by downtown, but not in downtown. It’s on the south side of the river, so it’s less congested during peak travel season.

The Drinks

Nearly half the cocktail menu items are special recipes created by Marker 10’s own mixologist, Cortney Harding. She tries to use local spirits like Deep Eddy Vodka and Waterloo Gin to create seasonal creations, and she comes up with fun things like the Whiskey River: (bulleit rye whiskey, lemon juice, malbec, simple syrup), or my favorite, the Grapefruit Juelp: (deep eddy ruby red vodka, mint, soda water, lemon, honey, pomegranate juice).

Watch out for her winter menu…she’s going to mix it all up again. (*Pun totally intended there…)

The Food

Those little Blistered Shishito Peppers are one of my favorite snacks. Why are they just so dang good? They’re tiny, hot, salty morsels of flavor dipped in chipotle aioli. I could eat ’em all day.

And not one, but two people told me before eating here to “be sure to try the Buffalo Mac n Cheese!” (Pulled chicken, buffalo cheddar béchamel, cavatappi pasta, bleu cheese crust.) The gooey texture and crunchy, salty, bleu cheese crust will melt away every care in the world.

No regrets friends….no regrets.

I also tried the Pulled Pork & Avocado Quesadilla (Oaxaca cheese, avocado, pork, salsa verde, sour cream). It’s color, flavor, and a little heat, and the perfect addition to your happy hour with friends.

I Iove their fun “Texas take” on sushi rolls (available starting at 5 pm), like the SOCO (spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber, fresh jalapeños, nori strips.)

Oh, and these sushi rolls are 8 pieces instead of 6. Just sayin’.

I’m a big fan of this place! I think it’s still a little under-appreciated in Austin, but that’s going to change soon as more people become aware of it. Austinites are an odd bunch…. We want restaurants that are totally unique to our city, so anything that’s marketed as a chain or a second location (especially from somewhere like *gasp* DALLAS!) gets a negative bias from the start.

Marker 10 is associated with the Hyatt Regency, which immediately made me think “oh, it’s going to be boring hotel food.” But it’s not at all! They’re a unique restaurant with their own menu, and they cater specifically to Austin by using local spirits in the cocktails and some fun, Austin-y menu items like the spicy SOCO Roll and the Hippie Hollow veggie roll.
