Free Chef Demo Next Week with Macy’s Culinary Council

Hey Friends!

I have an event I want to share with you today! There are so many fun things happening in Austin every weekend, and I’d like to be better about letting people know about them ahead of time. So here’s a really fun one, hosted by Macy’s Culinary Council:

Next Saturday, April 22 at 3 PM,  I’ll be heading to Macy’s at the Domain in Austin, TX to watch Chef Bryan Caswell cook deeeelicious food! He’ll be sharing a bunch of his tips and tricks, telling stories….you know, the whole deal. Come join me!!

(Psst: if you RSVP ahead of time, you get a $10 gift card. I’ll be using mine on more of these OXO Pop Containers…I’m in love with them and need just a few more to complete my set!)

Recently, I’ve been really into watching chef documentaries and cooking shows. Nate and I often eat dinner on the couch (yep, we’re those people!) and watch a food show while eating. Oddly, just before I found out about this event at Macy’s, we had been watching lots of southern cooking! Then I heard that Chef Caswell, who uses his southern Louisiana and Texas roots to inspire his coastal cooking, would be doing a demo in Austin… Well, that was just about perfect timing!

On top of that, I’ve had a recent realization in my life: I adore raw oysters. (Why did it take me so long to figure this out??) The whole idea of slurping a briny little animal out of its shell freaked me out for years, until recently I tried them and fell in love. They’re the best summer appetizer, and we all know that summer in Austin lasts about 9 months of the year.. (No lie.) I’ve actually never tried fried oysters, so I’m hoping that Bryan Caswell puts some version of oysters on his menu next weekend! I mean, as long as there’s any seafood at all, I’ll be a pretty happy camper..

Has anyone been to Chef Caswell’s restaurant in Houston, Reef? My husband has been, but I haven’t! I’m adding it to the list, though.. (Houston is just about 2 hours south of Austin, so it makes for an easy weekend trip.) Bryan Caswell was named “Best New Chef” by Bon Appetit Magazine. He was also nominated for the James Beard Award for Best Chef/Southwest in 2010 and 2011. Suffice to say, I’m pretty excited to watch him cook next weekend!

Hope everyone has the happiest Easter weekend!! Hope to see some of you at Macy’s next Saturday!

Kelsey
