Exploring Fleet Coffee Co. in East Austin

There’s a new coffee shop in town, and holy schmokes! It’s a good one!

Fleet Coffee is a little bitty 364-square foot triangle shaped coffee shop opened by two gentlemen who have a pretty impressive list of barista championship titles. Its east Austin location on Weberville Road puts it in the heart of hipsterville, which is just what you’d expect from a tiny footprint coffee shop with rotating list of some of the best roasters in the country, like one of my favorites, Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters from San Francisco.

But for what it lacks in size, it makes up in design. This is a beautiful shop! The concrete walls and wooden ceiling are paired perfectly with the bright white exterior with minimal lettering.

I ordered a cappuccino for me and pour-over for my date, then snagged a seat outside, as all of the inside seats were taken. It really is a pretty tiny shop! Both our cappuccino and pour-over were made with wrecking ball roasts, although there were several other options available, like Olympia Coffee Roasting Co and Phil and Sebastian. Nate and I are partial to Wrecking Ball because it’s the coffee shop we visited moments after getting engaged in San Francisco, so y’know, it’s kinda our thing. 😉

The outside tables were picnic style, with each piece of wood stained a subtlety different color. Fleet Coffee took its time opening, and from looking at the design, it’s pretty apparent why….the place is beautiful! Even the small exterior patio is aesthetically pleasing. I visited on a pretty cold day (for Austin…I know, all of you northerners are telling me that 50 degrees isn’t cold, but…it actually is) and didn’t want to stay long, but in the warmer months the patio would absolutely be a nice are to slowly enjoy a latte and some conversation.

My only request: Fleet Coffee, could you open a location closer to us south Austinites, please?

I got back late last night (er….early this morning) from a gig, so today will involve lots of coffee to function. (Hey…I just thought of a really good coffee shop… *wink).  I’m officially on a break from teaching for the next two weeks, which is a nice change of pace!

Enjoy your Monday!
